YORK, PA – The York College men's tennis squad fell
to visiting Gettysburg College Saturday in a tough 6-3 affair. With
the loss the Spartans drop to 3-6 on the season while the Bullets
up their 2010 mark to 4-2.
The non-conference tilt proved a much close match than the final
score reveals as either side could have pulled out the victory.
Both squads secured three singles-match points, but it was the
doubles matches that swung the final result to the Bullets.
Seniors Paul Graci (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan)
and Steve Collison (Westville, N.J./Woodbury)
squared off with Gettysburg's Dale Beshore and Mike
McLaughlin in the first doubles slot. The Spartan duo battled
throughout, but finished on the short end of an 8-6 score.
Second doubles was an even closer affair as Colin Jones
(Felton, Pa./Red Lion) and Travis Klein (East
Stroudsburg, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) pushed their match
to the brink. However, the Spartans would come up on the short side
once again, falling 9-7.
In singles play, Jones secured the #3 slot courtesy of a 6-4,
6-3 triumph over Terry Keegan, who was part of the duo that trumped
Jones and Klein in doubles.
Klein also captured an individual win as he took fourth singles
by an identical 6-4, 6-3 line.
Junior Ryan Harvey (Fallston, Md./Fallston)
nabbed yet another win in the sixth slot, besting Kevin Raynes 6-4,
6-3. Harvey owns York's top singles mark this season having
accumulated an impressive 8-2 record, including his win in
York's match against Grand Rapids Community College.
The Green and White, who are coming off four matches in five
days, now get to rest until heading back out on the road next
Thursday. York travels to Capital Athletic Conference foe Hood on
March 25 for a 3:30 p.m. date with the Blazers.
