HARRISBURG, PA – The York College women's tennis
team picked up a convincing 9-0 victory at Penn St. Harrisburg
Friday afternoon. With the non-conference triumph, the Spartans
improve their 2010 season mark to 3-7 while PSU Harrisburg drops to
3-6.
In singles play, the Spartans swept four of the six matches.
Katelyn Acker (Narvon, Pa./Pequea Valley),
Samantha Brenner (Mount Airy, Md./South Carroll),
and Stephanie Nelson (Marriottsville, Md./Liberty)
each took their matches (1st, 3rd, and
5th singles) by 6-0, 6-0 counts. Freshman Maria
McFaulds (North Effort, Pa./Pleasant Valley) took the
sixth slot with an 8-0 win.
Paige Doutrich (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley),
York's senior #2, nabbed a tough 3-6, 6-4, 10-8 for the Green
and White while rookie Megan McCullin (New Windsor,
Md./Westminster Senior) secured the fourth position with
another three set victory (6-1, 6-7 (0-2), 10-7).
Doubles action saw the Spartan side tally a 3-0 sweep. Acker and
Doutrich teamed up in the first doubles slot for an 8-3 triumph
while Brenner and McCullin also posted an 8-3 result. The duo of
Nelson and McFaulds garnered an 8-0 victory at third doubles.
The Spartans return to the court on Thursday, March 25, when
they travel to Capital Athletic Conference foe Hood. York is set to
face the Blazers in a 3:30 p.m. tilt.
