YORK, PA – The York College women's swimming team
picked up a 203-36 Senior Day victory over visiting Frostburg State
University Saturday afternoon at the Grumbacher Sport & Fitness
Center. The Spartans finish their 2009-2010 regular season slate
with an 8-5 overall record.
A pair of Spartans seniors nabbed individual
wins for the Green and White as both Ashley Stanton
(Columbia, Md./Hammond) and Molly Wasik (York,
Pa./Spring Grove) secured triumphs. Stanton notched hers
in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:05.88 while Wasik posted a
1:09.17 in the 100 backstroke.
On the day, the Spartans totaled 13 victories,
including Stanton's and Wasik's. The 200 butterfly
belonged to Lisa King (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton
Wright) who came in with a 2:22.54. York added two more
victories as Chelsea Ross (Paoli, Pa./PA Cyber)
and Liz Grey (Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth Academy)
provided wins in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, respectively.
Grey added another tally to the Spartans' win total with a
1:04.55 in the 100 butterfly.
Heather MacLennan (Galena, Md./St.
Mark's), one of York's top swimmers this
season, garnered the 200 backstroke win by touching the wall at
2:15.35. Sophomore Michaela Guild (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent
Pallotti) tallied a 5:30.74 to come in first place in the
500 freestyle.
Freshman Alex Minsky (Newtown,
Pa./Council Rock North), one of the Green and
White's talented youngsters, found victory in the 200
breaststroke with a 2:45.06.
In the 400 IM, Alison Beverly
(Andover, N.J./Newton) swam to a 5:08.34 to take first
while Colleen Walker (Hanover, Pa./Southwestern)
nabbed the 1,000 freestyle with a 13:58.92.
York's 200 medley relay squad of
MacLennan, Flor Aroche (Spring, Texas/Tomball),
Grey, and Stanton posted a 1:58.23 for one of York's two
relay wins.
The other relay triumph came in the 200
freestyle as the Spartans tallied a 1:47.91. The crew of Stanton,
Ross, Grey, and MacLennan teamed-up to post York's final
regular season win of the year.
Stanton, Wasik, Aroche, Kristin
Leonard (Herndon, Va./Herndon), and Kailtin Crean
(Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde) officially close out
their competitive swimming at York's Grumbacher Center
Natatorium. The first class to spend all four seasons in the GSFC,
these five Spartans posted a 27-22 mark over the previous four
years.
The Green and White now return to the pool to
continue preparations for February's Capital Athletic
Conference Championships. The Spartans travel to St. Mary's
City, Md. for the league championships on February 12-14.
