YORK, PA- The York College women's tennis team got a much
needed victory as the Spartans downed Hood College 7-2 in a Capital
Athletic Conference match on Tuesday afternoon in York. The win
snaps the Spartans' seven match losing streak as they improve
to 2-9 overall and 1-2 in the CAC. The Blazers fall to 8-9 overall
with the loss while they now stand at 2-3 in the CAC.
The Spartans captured all three doubles matches in relative
ease. Katelyn Acker (Narvon, Pa./Pequea Valley)
and Paige Doutrich (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley)
combined to notch an 8-3 victory in the first doubles contest.
Keturah Buchanan (York, Pa/William Penn) and
Megan Logan (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East)
recorded an 8-3 win in the second doubles while Samantha
Brenner (Mount Airy, Md./South Carroll) and Heidi Acker
(Narvon, Pa./Pequea Valley) posted an 8-4 win in the third doubles
match.
The Blazers got their two points with wins at first singles and
sixth singles. The Spartans won the four singles matches in
between. Doutrich recorded a 6-4, 6-4 win in second singles. Heidi
Acker recorded a 6-3, 6-3 win in the third singles match while
Logan had an 8-1 win in the fourth singles. Buchanan picked up
York's final win with an 8-1 pro set victory in the fifth
singles match.
The Spartans look to make it two straight on Wednesday afternoon
as they host Wesley College in a Capital Athletic Conference
contest. The match is slated to start at 2:00 pm.
