YORK, PA – The York College men's
tennis team rolled to a 9-0 Capital Athletic Conference win over
Hood College on Tuesday afternoon in York. The Spartans level their
record at 7-7 overall and 2-2 in the CAC. The Blazers fall to 3-12
for the campaign and 1-3 in the conference.
The Spartans have now won three straight with two of the three
coming via the shutout.
The Spartans began the match with a sweep of the doubles matches.
Tim Mowrer (Gordonville, Pa./Pequea Valley) and
Colin Jones (Felton, Pa./Red Lion) combined to
post an 8-6 first doubles victory. The tandem of Paul Graci
(Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) and Steve Collison
(Westville, N.J./Woodbury) rolled to an 8-3 second doubles
win while Joel Trimmer (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) and
Travis Klein (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Pocono Mountain
East) earned an 8-5 win at third doubles.
In singles play, Mowrer got York off to a good start with a 6-4,
6-0 first singles win. Trimmer edged Michael Hardman 7-6 (7-4), 7-5
in the second singles match-up. Collison needed three sets but he
got past David Blowe in the third singles, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Mansfield, Klein and Ryan Harvey (Fallston,
Md./Fallston) rounded out the win with victories at
fourth, fifth and sixth singles respectively.
The Spartans return to action on Wednesday afternoon as they
host Wesley College. The match is slated to start at 2:00 pm in
York.
