YORK, PA – The York College women's
tennis team closed out their 2009 regular season with a 7-2 win
over Stevenson University on Friday afternoon in York. The Spartans
close out their regular season with a mark of 4-10 and 3-3 in the
CAC while the Mustangs are now 4-9-1 and 1-5 in the conference.
The Spartans captured two of the three doubles matches to seize
early control of the match. Katelyn Acker (Narvon,
Pa./Pequea Valley) and Paige Doutrich (Gap,
Pa./Pequea Valley) teamed up to post an 8-6 in the first
doubles. Carolyn Caruso (Chesterfield, N.J./Northern
Burlington County) and Stephanie Nelson
(Marriottsville, Md./Liberty) then recorded an 8-2 win in
the third doubles match.
The Spartans were solid in the singles as they won five of the
six matches.
Acker rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win in the first singles match. The
Mustangs won the second singles match but the Spartans bounced back
with a Megan Logan (West Chester, Pa./West Chester
East) win in the third doubles match as she outlasted Samm
Rasnake in three sets.
In the fourth singles, Keturah Buchanan (York,
Pa./William Penn) recorded a 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-4) victory
over Stephanie Eyler. Nelson and Samantha Brenner (Mt.
Airy, Md./South Carroll) each recorded easy wins in the
fifth and sixth singles matches.
The Spartans will now turn their attention to the CAC
Tournament. The tournament will begin Sunday as the Spartans host
Stevenson. The match time will be determined on Saturday.
