YORK, PA – The York College men's
tennis team got back into the win column on a chilly Monday
afternoon with a clean 9-0 victory over visiting Alvernia. The
victory improves the Spartans' record to 4-5 on the year
while the Crusaders fall to 0-5.
The Green and White opened the
match by winning each of the three doubles matches in short order.
The #1 singles duo of Tim Mowrer (Gordonville, Pa./Pequea
Valley) and Colin Jones (Felton, Pa./Red
Lion) defeated Zach Lockwood and Adam Lush by a strong 8-2
count. Joel Trimmer (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) and
Jeff Mansfield (Bartonsville, Pa./North Harford)
picked up the victory in second doubles by the same 8-2 score. In
the third slot, Paul Graci (Exton, Pa./Bishop
Shanahan) and Steve Collison (Westville,
N.J./Woodbury) teamed up for a quick 8-1 victory over
Aaron Dearstyne and Zach Marsar.
Following their convincing results
in doubles, the Spartans swept through the singles contests in
similar fashion. Mowrer grabbed the #1 singles win 6-4, 6-3 over
Lockwood. The senior All-CAC performer now stands at 6-3 for the
season.
Graci backed up Mowrer's
triumph with one of his own, making his 2009 record 5-4. The
sophomore, himself an All-CAC selection in 2008, won 6-1, 6-0.
Trimmer bested Morgan Davidheiser in the third slot 6-3, 6-4. The
victory pushes the senior's 2009 mark to 4-5.
Collison and Mansfield secured two
more singles victories for the Spartans in the fourth and fifth
spots. Collison's 6-0, 6-3 win improves his record to 5-4 for
the year while Mansfield's 6-3, 6-2 result gives the
sophomore a 4-5 mark.
Travis Klein (East
Stroudsburg, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) continues his solid
play in the sixth position for the Green and White. Klein topped
Marsar 6-0, 6-3 as he now stands at a strong 7-2 for the
season.
The Spartans will return to action
on Thursday, March 26, with a trip to Gettysburg. The
non-conference contest is slated to begin at 4:30 pm.
