YORK,
PA - The York College women's swim team doused Gallaudet
University and Penn State-Altoona Saturday afternoon in York, to
move to 6-4 overall and finish their Capital Athletic Conference
regular-season schedule with a record of 3-3.
The Green and White earned eight individual
victories on the night to add to two relay victories bringing their
meet total to ten out of the eleven events.
Leading the first victory of the night was the
200 yard medley relay team of Heather MacLennan (Galena,
Md./ St. Mark's), Alex Minsky (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock
North), Amanda Silcox (Lebanon, Pa./ Cedar Crest), and Liz Grey
(Bensalem, Pa./ Nazareth Academy). The women posted a time
of 1:59.52 in the event to garner the top slot.
Building on the Spartan success in the first
event was freshman Chelsea Ross (Paoli, Pa./ PA
Cyber). Ross swam to an astounding 55
second victory in the 1,000 yard freestyle (12:02.56).
Michaela Guild (Laurel, Md./ St.
Vincent Pailotti) won the 200 yard freestyle event for the
Spartans. Guild swam to a time of 2:04.69, knocking almost a second
off of her seed time for the event. Guild then returned to swim in
the 500 yard freestyle event where she was victorious with a time
of 5:32.34.
The Spartan strand of victories continued to
grow with senior Ashley Stanton (Columbia, Md./
Hammond) bringing home the top spot in the 50 yard
freestyle event with a time of 26.62.
The meet continued in the Spartans'
favor when Silcox swam to victory in the 100 yard butterfly with a
1:05.76 performance. The nearest competitor finished with a
1:11.23.
Grey returned to the top spot in 100 yard
freestyle action when she earned a time of 58.70, leading fellow
Spartan Lisa King (Bel Air, Md./ C. Milton Wright)
at the wall. King finished the race with a time of 59.74.
MacLennan swam to a victory in the 100 yard
backstroke with a time of 1:02.70, garnering her second win of the
night.
Minsky earned the Spartans last individual win
of the night earning the top honors in the 100 yard breaststroke.
The Spartan swam to the top time of 1:15.19.
The Spartans finished the meet with the top
performance in the 200 yard freestyle relay. The relay of Stanton,
Guild, Grey, and MacLennan finished the race with a time of
1:46.00.
With the victory over Gallaudet the Spartan
women pull to .500 in CAC action and move to within one meet
victory of securing their second winning season in a row.
The Spartans return to action after the upcoming
semester break with a meet against Notre Dame (Md.) on January
15. The meet is scheduled to begin at 6:00p.m.
at the York College Natatorium in the Grumbacher Sport &
Fitness Center.
