YORK, PA - The York College men's tennis team picked up their
13th win of the season Monday afternoon in dominating
fashion with 9-0 victory over Penn State - Harrisburg. The
Spartans move to 13-3 on the year while PSU-Harrisburg falls to
2-3.
Tim Mowrer (Gordonville, Pa./Pequea Valley)
earned his 14th win of 2008 taking first singles with a
6-1 result before Shawn Newlin retired. York's top player improves
his season mark to 14-2 playing all 16 of his matches in the first
slot.
Paul Graci's (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan)
second singles match against Keith Lynn was the closest of the day
but Graci still prevailed 7-6 (7-5), 7-5. The sophomore continues
his stellar season moving to 13-2 including 9-1 in the second slot.
The green and white commanded the remainder of the singles
matches. Joel Trimmer (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) took
the third flight 6-1, 6-0 while Josh Kulp (Souderton,
Pa./Homeschooled) captured the fourth flight 6-0, 6-1.
Steve Collison (Westville, N.J./Woodbury) won his
singles match, taking the fifth slot 6-1, 6-0. Collison's victory
pushes his 2008 record to 12-1 including a perfect 5-0 in the fifth
position. Braxton Koppelman's (Alexandria,
Va./Annandale) win at sixth singles ensured the sweep as
he won 6-0, 6-1.
As with singles, the Spartans also dominated doubles play.
Mowrer and Trimmer won the first flight 8-1 while Kulp and
Koppelman picked up the second doubles win also by an 8-1 score
line. Jeff Mansfield (Bartonsville, Pa./North
Harford) and Travis Klein (East Stroudsburg,
Pa./Pocono Mountain East) earned the third slot victory
8-0.
The Spartans next travel to Dover, DE on Tuesday, April 8, to
take on Capital Athletic Conference foe Wesley in a 2:00 pm match
up.
