FREDERICK, MD- The York College men's tennis team notched
an abbreviated 5-0 Capital Athletic Conference victory over
Hood College on a rainy Thursday in Frederick, MD. The Spartans
improve to 12-3 overall and 3-2 in the CAC while the Blazers
fall to 1-6 overall and 0-4 in the conference.
The match saw all three doubles contests take place before rain
forced singles play inside. The first doubles team of Ron
Ho (Frederick, Md./Frederick) and Jeff Mansfield
(Bartonsville, Pa./North Harford) rolled to an 8-1 win
over first doubles. Braxton Koppelman (Alexandria,
Va./Annandale) and Colin Jones (Felton, Pa./Red
Lion) combined to post an 8-0 win in the second doubles
match. Shawn Holzmann (York, Pa./York Catholic)
and Patrick McKee (York, Pa./York Catholic) rolled
to an 8-0 shutout win in the third doubles contest.
In singles play, Tim Mowrer (Gordonville, Pa./Pequea
Valley) notched a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Michael Hardman in
the first singles match. In the third singles match, Joel Trimmer
(Hanover, Pa./Hanover) defeated Nick Gunther 6-0, 6-0 for the
match-clinching win. The sixth singles match began but was not
finished since the Spartans had already won the five matches they
needed for victory. The second, fourth, and fifth singles matches
were not started due to the weather.
The Spartans return to action on Monday afternoon as they host
PSU-Harrisburg at 3:30 pm at the Spartan Tennis Center.
