YORK, PA - The York College women's tennis team fell to
Salisbury University 9-0 in Capital Athletic Conference play
on Wednesday afternoon in York. The Spartans fall to 2-7 overall
and 1-3 in the CAC while the Sea Gulls remain perfect in the
conference, improve to 6-0 in the league with the win while they
are 14-1 overall.
The Sea Gulls dominated all aspects of the match. The won the
first two doubles matches 8-2 and 8-0. The Spartan tandem of
Stephanie Nelson (Marriottsville, Md./Liberty) and Paige Doutrich
(Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) played well in the third doubles as they
extended the Sea Gulls duo of Lauren Baker and Angela Tenaglia to
9-7.
York was swept in all six singles matches in straight sets.
Salisbury won two matches 6-0, 6-0 while the Spartans got just two
games in two other matches. Nelson managed to win four games in the
fifth singles match while Caralyn Caruso (Chesterfield,
N.J./Northern Burlington County) won three games in her sixth
singles match.
The Spartans return to action on Thursday afternoon as they
travel to Hood for another CAC match. The match is scheduled
to begin at 3:00 pm.
