YORK, PA - The York College women's tennis team earned a
6-3 victory over Hood College in the opening round of the Capital
Athletic Conference tournament in York. The Spartans are the
fourth seed in the tournament as they improve to 5-9. The Blazers
entered the tournament as the five seed as the fall to 6-6 for the
campaign.
The Spartans jumped out to an early lead as they captured all
three doubles matches. The Spartans' Heidi Acker
(Narvon, Pa./Pequea Valley) and Katie Muir (Bel
Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) teamed up to posted a 9-8
(8-6) victory in the first doubles match. Keturah
Buchanan (York, Pa./William Penn) combined with
Megan Logan (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East)
to earn an 8-6 win in the second doubles match. The green and white
concluded the doubles sweep with a victory from the tandem of
Stephanie Nelson (Marriottsville, Md./Liberty) and
Paige Doutrich (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) in the
third doubles as they notched an 8-4 win.
The Spartans got singles wins from Buchanan in the first
singles, Logan in the third singles, and Acker in the fourth
singles. Buchanan posted a 6-2, 6-3 win over Christine
Ocampos-Barry. Logan cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win in her match while
Acker posted a 6-3, 6-4 win over Morgan Wright.
The Spartans now advance to face top-seeded Mary Washington in
the tournament's semifinal round. The match is slated to
begin at 3:30 pm in Fredericksburg, VA.
