FREDERICK, MD – The York College women's tennis team
captured a 5-4 Capital Athletic Conference victory Friday afternoon
at Hood College. The Spartans move to 4-9 on the year including 3-3
in league play while the Blazers drop to 6-4 overall and 2-3 in the
CAC.
Keturah Buchanan (York, Pa./William Penn) improves to 4-9 on the
season as she won the first flight singles match 6-1, 6-0. Buchanan
has played in the number on slot for each of York's 13
matches in 2008.
The Spartans would drop second singles, but did capture the
third, fourth, and fifth flights. Megan Logan (West Chester,
Pa./West Chester East) garnered the third slot win with a 6-1, 6-2
showing over Hood's Larisa Buriak. Heidi Acker's
(Narvon, Pa./Pequea Valley) 6-0, 6-4 victory in the fourth slot was
her eighth win of the season as she now stands at 8-5 for the
season. In fifth singles, Caralyn Caruso (Chesterfield,
N.J./Northern Burlington County) earned the green and white's
final singles victory with a tight 6-4, 1-6, 10-6 performance.
The duo of Buchanan and Logan secured York's lone doubles
win with an 8-3 victory over Laura Wanner and Morgan Wright.
The Spartans return to action on Monday, April 14, as they begin
the CAC postseason tournament.
