YORK, PA – The York College men's tennis team earned
a commanding 9-0 victory Tuesday afternoon over Goucher College in
York. The Spartans improve to 11-2 while the Gophers drop to 2-8 on
the season.
Tim Mowrer (Gordonville, Pa./Pequea Valley)
picked up his eleventh win of the season as the Spartans'
number one singles player. Mowrer captured the 6-2, 6-0 win and
ripped his second ace of 2008. Ryan Fickes (York,
Pa./Dallastown) won in second singles 6-0, 6-2 and moves
to 8-2 on the campaign including 4-1 as the Spartans' number
two.
Paul Graci (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan)
continues his outstanding sophomore season capturing his twelfth
match of the season 6-1, 6-0. Graci's record now stands at
12-1 and 4-1 in the third slot. Spartan captain Joel
Trimmer (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) earned the 6-2, 6-1 victory
in fourth singles to move to 10-2.
Ron Ho's (Frederick, Md./Frederick) fifth
singles match was the closest of the afternoon with the senior
prevailing 6-1, 7-5 and improving to 10-3. Steve Collison
(Westville, N.J./Woodbury) garnered the win in the sixth
slot 6-1, 6-0 and is now 11-0.
In doubles play, Fickes and Ho took their first slot match 8-5.
Mowrer and Trimmer earned a strong 8-0 victory in second doubles
and the duo's mark improves to 11-1. Josh Kulp
(Souderton, Pa./Homeschooled) and Braxton
Koppelman (Alexandria, Va./Annandale) continued their
strong play taking third doubles 8-2 as the pair's 2008
record improves to 10-1.
The Spartans return to action tomorrow, Wednesday, April 2, as
they host Capital Athletic Conference rival Salisbury at 3:00 pm.
