YORK, PA - The York College women's tennis team suffered a
5-4 loss to St. Mary's College in a Capital
Athletic Conference contest in York on Saturday afternoon.
The Spartans fall to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in the CAC with the
loss while the Seahawks improve to 5-5 overall and 3-1 in the
league. Three of York's five losses have come by 5-4 scores
while another came by a 6-3 count.
In doubles play, the Seahawks won the first two doubles flights
by identical 8-6 scores. The Spartan tandem of Megan Logan
(West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) and Caralyn
Caruso (Chesterfield, N.J./Northern Burlington County) won
the third doubles match 8-6.
In singles play, the Seahawks won the first two flights in
straight sets while in the third flight, Moncia Powell edged Logan
in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
York's Heidi Acker (Narvon, Pa./Pequea
Valley) earned a 6-1, 6-3 win in the fourth singles match.
Teammate Stephanie Nelson (Marriottsville,
Md./Liberty) posted a hard-earned 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 12-10
win in the fifth singles match while Caruso notched a 6-2, 6-4 win
in the sixth singles match.
The Spartans return to action on Tuesday, April 1 when they host
Goucher in a non-conference contest. The match is slated to begin
at 3:00 pm.
