YORK, PA- The York College men's tennis team posted their
seventh shutout win of the year as the Spartans downed St.
Mary's College 9-0 in Capital Athletic Conference
action on Saturday in York. The Spartans improve to 10-2 overall
and 2-1 in the CAC while the Seahawks fall to 5-5 overall and
2-2 in the conference.
The Spartans kicked off the action with a trio of wins in
doubles play. The first team of Ron Ho (Frederick,
Md./Frederick) and Jeff Mansfield (Bartonsville,
Pa./North Harford) recorded an 8-6 win in their match. The
second doubles team of Tim Mowrer (Gordonville, Pa./Pequea
Valley) and Joel Trimmer (Hanover,
Pa./Hanover) and the third doubles team of Josh
Kulp (Souderton, Pa./Homeschooled) and Braxton
Koppelman (Alexandria, Va./Annandale) each notched 8-2
wins in their respective matches.
In singles play, York got five straight set decisions started by
Mowrer's 6-0, 6-1 first singles win. Sophomore Paul
Graci (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) rolled to a 6-0, 6-0
win in the second singles match while Trimmer earned a 6-1, 6-2
victory in the third singles match up with Andrew MacLaughlin. Ho
posted a 6-0, 6-1 win in fourth singles and Steve Collison
(Westville, N.J./Woodbury) notched a 6-1, 6-3 victory in
the sixth singles match. Kulp needed three sets to earn a win in
the fifth singles match against Alex Dijnis as Kulp won 6-2, 4-6,
and 10-6 in the super tiebreaker.
The Spartans return to action on Tuesday, April 1 when they host
Goucher College in a non-conference contest. Game time at the
Spartan Tennis Center is 3:00 pm.
