WASHINGTON, D.C.- The York College men's
tennis team extended their win streak to eight with an 8-1 victory
over former Capital Athletic Conference foe Catholic
University on Tuesday afternoon in Washington, DC. The Spartans
improve to 8-1 overall while the Cardinals, now members of the
Landmark Conference, fall to 5-3.
The Spartans notched two wins in the three doubles contests. The
Spartan second doubles team of Tim Mowrer (Gordonville,
Pa./Pequea Valley) and Joel Trimmer (Hanover,
Pa./Hanover) rolled to an 8-1 win as they defeated Michael
Reaney and Mike Schinella. The third doubles match saw Josh
Kulp (Souderton, Pa./Homeschooled) and Braxton
Koppelman (Alexandria, Va./Annandale) combine to defeat
Connor Donnelly and Rich Sheaffer 8-1. The Catholic tandem of John
Dillon and Andrew Kracht posted an 8-6 win over York's first
doubles team of Ron Ho (Frederick, Md./Frederick)
and Ryan Fickes (Dallastown, Pa./Dallastown).
In singles play, Mowrer began the action with a 6-4, 6-0 win in
the first singles match-up with Dillon. Fickes outlasted Kracht
6-3, 7-5 in the second singles match. Sophomore Paul Graci
(Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) remained perfect in singles
play with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 win over Schinella in the third
singles match. Trimmer defeated Sheaffer 7-5, 6-1 in the fourth
singles match while Ho downed Donnelly 6-2, 6-2 in the fifth
singles match. Steve Collison (Westville,
N.J./Woodbury) improved to 8-0 with a 6-1, 6-2 victory in
the sixth singles match, allowing the Spartans to sweep the six
singles matches.
The Spartans return to action on March 25 when they host
nationally ranked Mary Washington in a CAC contest. The match
is slated to begin at 3:30 pm.
