YORK, PA- The York College men's tennis team extended
their win streak to seven with a 9-0 Capital
Athletic Conference win over Villa Julie College on
Thursday afternoon in York. The Spartans improve to 7-1 overall and
1-0 in the CAC while the Mustangs fall to 2-4 overall and 0-1
in the CAC.
The Spartans notched wins in all three doubles contests. The
first doubles team of Ron Ho (Frederick,
Md./Frederick) and Ryan Fickes (Dallastown,
Pa./Dallastown) posted an 8-3 win in their match. The
Spartan duo of Tim Mowrer (Gordonville, Pa./Pequea
Valley) and Joel Trimmer (Hanover,
Pa./Hanover) rolled to an 8-1 win in the second doubles
match as they defeated Korey Garner and Ryan Woodring. The third
doubles match was the closest of the three as Jeff
Mansfield (Bartonsville, Pa./North Harford) and
Braxton Koppelman (Alexandria, Va./Annandale)
combined to defeat Ben Petasky and Randy Speck 8-4.
In singles play, Mowrer began the action with a 6-2, 6-1 win in
the first singles match-up with Ryan Morse. Fickes nearly shutout
Woodring in the second singles as he notched a 6-1, 6-0 win.
Sophomore Paul Graci (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan)
recorded a 6-2, 6-3 win in third singles while Ho earned a 6-0, 6-4
win in fourth singles for the green and white. Trimmer defeated
Matt Kondilas 6-3, 6-3 in the fifth singles match while
Steve Collison (Westville, N.J./Woodbury)
completed the Spartan sweep with a 6-2, 7-5 win in the sixth
singles match.
The Spartans will put their win streak on the line on Friday as
they host Salisbury University in a key CAC tilt. The Sea
Gulls enter the match 6-0 overall and 1-0 in the CAC. The Sea Gulls
are ranked tenth in the Atlantic South region. The match is slated
to begin at 3:00 pm at the Spartan Tennis Center.
