HILTON HEAD, SC - The York College men's
tennis team captured their fourth straight 9-0 victory Thursday
afternoon, blanking St. John Fisher College 9-0. The Spartans end
their trip to Hilton Head, SC with a 4-1 record and have now won 36
consecutive matches. The Cardinals drop to 2-2 on the year.
Tim Mowrer (Gordonville, Pa./Pequea Valley),
Paul Graci (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan), and
Ryan Fickes (York, Pa./Dallastown) each picked up
their two set victories with relative ease, while Steve
Collison (Westville, N.J./Woodbury) and Ron Ho
(Frederick Md./Frederick) also captured their wins in
straight sets.
The only scare came in the fourth flight match when Joel
Trimmer (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) had to battle the
Cardinals' Donnie Sherman for the 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 10-8
come-from-behind victory.
The green and white had a bit tougher time in doubles action,
but the three pairs were able to pull-out the victories. Trimmer
once again had to battle, but he and Mowrer were able to fend off
Sherman and Karl Schiefer for the 9-8 (7-5) victory at number two
doubles. The duo of Fickes and Ho won their first flight match 8-6,
while Josh Kulp (Souderton, Pa./Homeschooled) and
Braxton Koppelman (Alexandria, Va./Annandale)
earned the 8-4 win in third doubles.
York places their four contest winning streak on the line at
home against the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore on Tuesday,
March 4 at 2:00 pm.
