HILTON HEAD, SC - The York College men's
tennis team backed-up yesterday's 9-0 over Notre Dame College
win with yet another 9-0 sweep today against Adrian College in
Hilton Head, SC. The Spartans pick up their second victory of the
season and move to 2-1 while Adrian remains winless and falls to
0-4 in 2008.
Tim Mowrer (Gordonville, Pa./Pequea Valley)
proved once again why he is York's number one with a strong
6-3, 6-1 win over Adrian's best in Chris Ludwig. Sophomore
Paul Graci (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) improves
his mark to 3-0 as he rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Orio
Yeagley.
With Coach Ludwig moving some players around for the early
morning match, Steve Collison (Westville,
N.J./Woodbury) got the call in the number three slot and
did not disappoint earning the win 6-0, 6-3. Ron Ho
(Frederick, Md./Frederick) won his second match of 2008
taking both sets by a 6-1 count.
Jeff Mansfield (Bartonsville, Pa./North
Harford) and Josh Kulp (Souderton,
Pa./Homeschooled) made their first appearances in singles
matches this season and only dropped one game between the pair.
Mansfield garnered his victory 6-0, 6-0; while Kulp was dominant in
his 6-0, 6-0 win.
Over the three doubles matches, the Spartans won 24 of the 26
games en route to the sweep. Mowrer and Joel Trimmer
(Hanover, Pa./Hanover) combined for the 8-0 win in first
doubles while Kulp and Braxton Koppelman (Alexandria,
Va./Annandale) went 8-2 to capture their second doubles
win in as many days and now stand at 2-0 together on the season.
Shawn Holzmann (Red Hook, N.Y./Red Hook) and
Colin Jones (Felton, Pa./Red Lion) earned a win in
their respective first matches of 2008 rolling 6-0, 6-0.
The Spartans, who have a pair of matches on the day, finish
their double-dip by facing Capital University tonight at 6:00 pm.
York then closes out their trip to Hilton Head, SC with a match on
Thursday, February 28 against St. John Fisher at 12:00 pm.
