YORK, PA – The York College women's
swimming team went 1-1 Saturday afternoon in a home tri-meet with
Goucher and Salisbury. The Spartans defeated the Gophers 133-70 but
fell to CAC foe Salisbury 124-79 and now stand at 5-5 overall and
2-4 in the Capital Athletic Conference. Goucher drops both results
and falls to 5-4 while the Sea Gulls sweep the meet and improve to
4-3.
Molly Wasik (York, Pa./Spring
Grove) captured the Spartan's lone overall
individual victory on the afternoon, securing the 200 IM for the
Spartan squad. The junior covered the 200-yard course in a time of
2:21.21.
The green and white did grab six
second-place finishes, including the runner-up slot in both
relays.
Wasik, Colleen Nolan (Annandale,
Va./Annandale), Lisa King (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton
Wright), and Allison Brophy (Reading,
Pa./Reading) combined to take second in the 200 medley
relay, teaming up for a time of 1:59.72.
In the 200 free relay, Ashley
Stanton (Columbia, Md./Hammond), Kaitlyn Estes
(Athens, Pa./Athens Area), Liz Grey (Bensalem,
Pa./Nazareth Academy), and Bridget Miller
(Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) captured second in the 200
freestyle relay clocking a 1:45.80.
Stanton secured a pair of individual
second places, recording second-best times in the 50 and 100
freestyle races. Stanton's timed a 26.51 in the 50 before
touching the wall at 58.14 in the 100.
Freshman Michaela Guild (Laurel,
Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) took York's two other
individual second-place finishes, both coming in distance freestyle
events. Her first came in the 1,000 free where the rookie clocked
an 11:39.32, while her second came in the 500 free in a time of
5:39.58.
Five different Spartans registered
third-place times. Wasik came in third in the 100 backstroke with a
time of 1:06.11 while Grey clocked a 26.80 in the 50 freestyle.
Kaitlin Crean (Fairfield,
Conn./Fairfield Warde) touched the wall in third in the
1,000 freestyle, clocking in at 12:02.07King nabbed third in the
200 IM with a time of 2:25.34 while Brophy timed in at 2:06.17 in
the 200 freestyle notching third in the event.
With more than a month before their next
meet, the Spartans will return to practice to with plenty of time
to prepare for the latter portion of their season. York's
next competitive meet comes on Friday, January 16, when the
Spartans travel to the College of Notre Dame of Maryland for a 6:00
pm contest.
