YORK, PA – The York College women's
swimming team captured a pair of victories Saturday afternoon,
downing Penn State-Altoona 164-37 and Capital Athletic Conference
foe Gallaudet 150-55 in tri-meet action at York's Grumbacher
Sport & Fitness Center. The Spartan record improves to 4-3 on
the season including 2-2 in conference.
The Spartans grabbed six overall
individual first-place finishes to go along with their first and
second place spots in both the 200 medley and 200 freestyle
relays.
York began the meet by taking the
200-medley relay in a time of 2:01.79. The team of Allison
Brophy (Reading, Pa./Reading), Michaela Guild
(Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti), Lisa King (Bel
Air, Md./C. Milton Wright), and Bridget Miller
(Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) combined for the victory.
Molly Wasik (York, Pa./Spring Grove),
Collen Nolan (Annandale, Va./Annandale),
Liz Grey (Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth Academy), and
Ashley Stanton (Columbia, Md./Hammond) finished
just over a tenth of a second behind the first-place crew with a
time of 2:01.90.
Alison Beverly (Andover,
N.J./Newton) kicked off the individual races with a win
for the Spartans as she placed first in the 1,000 freestyle,
touching the wall at 11:59.22.
Senior Miller and freshman Guild backed up
Beverly's victory by claiming individual wins of their own.
Miller secured the 200 freestyle for the green and white with a
time of 2:09.45, while Guild took the 50 freestyle event in
27.18.
In the 100 freestyle, Stanton notched the
victory by touching in at 57.98. Wasik and Hannah Bell (Red
Lion, Pa./Mountainview International) captured the
Spartans final two individual first-place spots, taking the 100
backstroke and 500 freestyle races respectively. Wasik traversed
the 100 yards in 1:06.39 while Bell's 5:50.64 was the top
time in the 500 free.
The 200 freestyle relay squad of Stanton,
Bell, Wasik, and Miller secured the final race of the meet for the
green and white, clocking in at 1:47.45. The group of Guild,
Kaitlyn Estes (Athens, Pa./Athens Area),
Kristin Leonard (Herndon, Va./Herndon), and
Beverly notched second with a time of 1:52.65.
Seven Spartans picked up second-place
finishes as Kaitlin Crean (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield
Warde) posted second in the 200 freestyle and Brophy
finished in the number two slot in the 50 freestyle. King
registered a pair of individual seconds in the 200 IM and the 100
freestyle. Grey took second in the 100 butterfly while Leonard and
Nolan finished second in the 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke
respectively.
York will take to the pool next weekend as
they host CAC foe St. Mary's (Md.) in a 1:00 pm tilt.
