YORK, PA – The York College women's
swimming team opened the 2008-2009 season in dominating fashion on
Saturday afternoon, dropping visiting Capital Athletic Conference
foe Hood College 168-32. The Spartans took first place in each of
the eleven races and only relinquished one second-place spot during
the meet.
A strong off-season of
training proved fruitful for the green and white as they broke two
pool records at the York College Natatorium in just the first meet
of the year. The 200 medley relay team of Molly Wasik
(York, Pa./Spring Grove), Michaela Guild (Laurel,
Md./St. Vincent Pallotti), Lisa King,
and Ashley Stanton (Columbia, Md./Hammond) led off
the meet and the season with a new pool record, combining to clock
a 2:01.02.
Freshman Liz
Grey (Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth Academy) began her collegiate
career with a bang, establishing a new pool record in the 100
butterfly touching the wall at 1:03.77. Grey also took the 50
freestyle with a time of 26.74.
Wasik also captured a
pair of individual victories, winning the 200 IM in a time of
2:23.10 and the 100 backstroke in 1:06.17.
In the 100
breaststroke, senior Colleen Nolan (Annandale,
Va./Annandale) took first clocking in with a time of
1:17.09, while Stanton picked up an individual win in the 200
freestyle touching the wall at 2:07.38.
Junior Kaitlin
Crean (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde) and freshman
Kaitlyn Estes (Athens, Pa./Athens Area) took
victories in the 500 and 100 freestyles respectively.
The Spartans return to
action on Saturday, November 1, when they travel to Marymount. The
CAC meet is slated for 2:00 pm.
