YORK, PA - The York College women's swim team put together
a dominating performance Friday night at the Grumbacher Sport &
Fitness Center with a 129-68 win over the College of Notre Dame of
Maryland. The victory bumps the Spartan record to 6-5 on the
year while the Gators fall too 1-7.
York jumped ahead early as Tristen Zeigler (Coatesville,
Pa./Coatesville), Colleen Nolan (Annandale,
Va./Annandale), Laura McCray
(Laurel, Md./Laurel), and Ashley Stanton
(Columbia, Md./Hammond) combined in the 200-medley relay
for a first-place time of 2:05.90. From then on it was all
Spartans.
Alison Beverly (Andover, N.J./Newton) earned a
pair of first-place finishes touching in at 12:15.23 in the 1000
freestyle before clocking a 2:29.07 in the 200 freestyle.
Zeigler, McCray, and Stanton each backed up their relay win with
a trio of individual wins. Zeigler won the 50 freestyle in
28.06 while McCray controlled the 200 freestyle touching the wall
at 2:08.97. Stanton grabbed her first-place finish in the 100
freestyle coming in just at under one minute at 59.98.
Jen Ehrenreich (Cherry Hill, N.J./Bishop
Eustace) took the 100 butterfly with a time of
1:08.57. In the 100 backstroke, Lauren Richardson
(Naples, Fla./Naples) earned the top spot swimming to a
1:10.64 time as Meghan Wallace (Metuchen,
N.J./Metuchen) won the 500 free at 6:08.94.
The green and white also registered eight second-place finishes
including Kaitlin Crean(Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield
Warde) with a 2:16.17 in the 200 freestyle and
Flor Aroche (Spring, Texas/Tomball) with a 28.91
in the 50 freestyle. Allison Blaszky (Stony Brook,
N.Y./Ward Melville) earned a pair of second-place finishes
in the 100 butterfly and the 500 freestyle clocking in at 1:08.99
and 6:19.71 respectively.
In a great show of sportsmanship, York swam the final two events
as exhibitions. In the 100 breaststroke, the Gators'
Liz Shipley timed in at 1:27.01 earning first-place points while
Torre Bassett came in second at 1:28.65. The Gators'
200 freestyle relay team of Meg Rooney, Natalia Seymour, Caroline
Munley, and Brigitta Long took top points with a time of 2:04.07.
The Spartans return to the pool Saturday as they square off
against the visitors from College of Misericordia. The meet
is set for 1:00 pm in the York's Grumbacher Center
Natatorium.
