YORK, PA-The York College men's tennis
team had their four-game win streak snapped by Dickinson College,
5-4, in non-conference action on Monday afternoon in York. The
Spartans fall to 7-4 for the campaign while the Red Devils improve
to 8-5.
The Spartans started off strong by leading all
three of the doubles matches. Unfortunately for the green and
white, York ended up winning just one of those three doubles
matches. The duo of Ryan Fickes (York, PA/ Dallastown) and Josh
Kulp (Souderton, PA/ Homeschooled) posted an 8-5 win in the first
doubles to give York the early lead. The Red Devils bounced back to
win 8-6 in both the second and third doubles matches as Dickinson
led 2-1 through the doubles matches.
Dickinson extended their lead to 5-1 as they won
the fifth, third, and fourth singles matches, essentially winning
the match. All three of the Dickinson singles victories came in
straight sets. York closed out the match with wins by Tim Mowrer
(Gordonville, PA/ Pequea Valley) at first singles, Fickes at second
singles, and Brian Wiesemann (Leonardtown, MD/ Leonardtown) at
sixth singles.
The Spartans return to action on Tuesday as they
travel to Messiah to face the Falcons in a non-conference action in
Grantham, PA.
