TOWSON, MD-The York College men's tennis
team snapped their two-match losing streak with a 6-3 Capital
Athletic Conference win at Goucher College on Tuesday afternoon in
Towson, MD. The Spartans improve to 8-5 overall and 4-1 in the CAC
while the Gophers fall to 3-8 overall and 2-4 in the
league.
The
Spartans captured two of the three doubles matches. Goucher won the
first doubles contest 8-5 before the Spartans bounced back to win
the second and third. The second doubles team of
Tim Mowrer (Gordonville, PA/ Pequea
Valley) andJoel
Trimmer (Hanover, PA/ Hanover) posted an 8-4 win while Brian Wiesemann (Leonardtown, MD/
Leonardtown) and Jeff
Mansfield (Bartonsville, PA/ North Harford) notched an 8-3 victory in their
match.
In
singles play, Mowrer continued to roll with a three-set win over
Andrew Ortiz. Mowrer is now 11-2 at first singles as he has won
seven straight matches. Ryan
Fickes (York, PA/ Dallastown) rolled to a 6-0, 6-2 win in his second singles
match. The Gophers earned singles wins at the third and fourth
singles but York closed out the match with wins
byJosh Kulp (Souderton, PA/
Homeschooled) at
fifth singles and Wiesemann at sixth singles.
The
Spartans return to action on Wednesday afternoon as they travel to
Salisbury to face the Sea Gulls in a CAC contest. The match is
slated to begin at 3:30 pm.
