YORK, PA-The York College men's tennis
team posted their fourth straight win as they edged Gettysburg
College 5-4 on Monday afternoon in Gettysburg. The Spartans improve
to 7-3 for the season while the Bullets fall to 1-2 overall.
The green and white captured two of the three
doubles matches to take the early lead. Ryan Fickes (York, PA/
Dallastown) and Josh Kulp (Souderton, PA/ Homeschooled) combined to
win the first doubles 9-7 while Tim Mowrer (Gordonville, PA/
Pequea Valley) and Joel Trimmer (Hanover, PA/ Hanover) teamed up to
earn an 8-5 win in the second doubles. Gettysburg's Matt
Salter and Patrick Dempsey earned the 8-2 win at third doubles.
The Spartans captured the first singles match as
Mowrer rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win. Gettysburg earned wins at third
and fourth singles. Kulp notched a 6-3, 7-5 win at fifth singles
while the Bullets' Dempsey earned a 6-2, 6-4 win at sixth
singles, tying the match at four. That left the Spartans'
Fickes and Mike Leary to determine the match. Fickes won the first
set 6-0 but Leary took the second set 7-6 (7-4 in the tiebreaker)
before Fickes closed out his win and the match with a 6-2 third set
victory.
The Spartans return to action on Sunday when
they travel to St. Mary's for a Capital Athletic Conference
match.
