YORK, PA-The York College men's tennis
team posted their third consecutive 9-0 win on Sunday as they
defeated Hood in a Capital Athletic Conference match in York. The
Spartans are now 6-3 overall and 2-1 in the CAC. The Blazers fall
to 2-7 overall and 0-2 in the league.
The green and white captured two 8-1 decisions
in the first two doubles matches. Ryan Fickes (York, PA/
Dallastown) and Josh Kulp (Souderton, PA/ Homeschooled) won the
first doubles match while Steve Collison (Westville, NJ/ Woodbury)
and Dan Stahl (Goram, NY/ Longwood) earned the win in the second
doubles. The Blazers forfeited the third doubles match as they did
not have enough players to fill out the flight.
In the singles matches, sophomore Tim Mowrer
(Gordonville, PA/ Pequea Valley) rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win at the
first singles flight. Senior Dave Tabachnik (Manalapan, NJ/
Manalapan) recorded an identical 6-0, 6-1 win in the second singles
match. Joel Trimmer (Hanover, PA/ Hanover) defeated Nick Gunther
6-0, 6-1 in third singles match while Stahl defeated Kenneth Smith
6-1, 6-0 in the fourth singles match.
The Blazers forfeited the fifth and sixth
singles matches to provide for the Spartans' final 9-0 margin
of victory.
York returns to action on Monday as they travel
to Gettysburg to face the Bullets. The match is slated to begin at
3:30 pm.
