YORK, PA-The York College women's
tennis squad posted a doubleheader split on Saturday at the M&T
Bank Fieldhouse at York College. The Spartans began the session
with a 9-0 loss to #11 Mary Washington. In the nightcap, the
Spartans bounced back to earn an 8-1 win over Villa Julie. The
Spartans are now 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the CAC.
Against Mary Washington, the Eagles took all the
singles matches in straight sets. The strongest performance from a
Spartan came from Paige Doutrich (Gap, PA/Pequea Valley) as she
fell to Danika Robison 6-1 and 6-3.
The Eagles cruised in the doubles matches as
they dropped just one game in the second and third doubles
matches while their number one doubles team won 8-0.
Things were much better for the Spartans in the
second match of the day. York captured three of the five singles
matches that were contested. Erin Dolac (Bangor, PA/Bangor Area)
rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win in the first singles match. The Mustangs
won the second and third singles flights but YCP bounced back with
a Keturah Buchanan (York, PA/William Penn) 7-5, 7-5 win in the
fourth singles match. Freshman Megan Logan (West Chester, PA/West
Chester East) cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win in the fifth singles
match-up. The Mustangs forfeited the sixth singles match as they
did not have player to fill out the flight.
In the doubles matches, Dolac and Kelly Summers
(Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West) combined to post an 8-4 win in
the first doubles contest. The Mustangs won the second doubles 8-1
but had to forfeit the third doubles to provide for the final 6-3
Spartan victory.
The green and white return to action on Sunday
afternoon as they host Hood College in a non-conference contest at
1:00 at the Spartan Tennis Center.
