YORK, PA-The York College men's tennis
team finally got to play outside at home and the green and white
made the most of the sunny spring day with a 9-0 victory over Villa
Julie College in a non-conference match on Tuesday in York. The
Spartans improve to 4-3 overall while the Mustangs fall to 3-2.
The green and white began the day by sweeping
the doubles matches. Sophomore Ryan Fickes (York, PA/ Dallastown)
and Josh Kulp (Souderton, PA/ Homeschooled) combined to post an 8-4
victory at first doubles. Sophomore Tim Mowrer (Gordonville, PA/
Pequea Valley) and Joel Trimmer (Hanover, PA/ Hanover) teamed up to
record an easy 8-2 win at second doubles. Brian Wiesemann
(Leonardtown, MD/ Leonardtown) and Jeff Mansfield (Bartonsville,
PA/ North Harford) earned an 8-4 win at third doubles to close out
the doubles matches.
In singles play, Mowrer recorded a 6-3, 6-2 win
in the first flight. Fickes rolled to a 6-2, 6-0 win in the second
singles match. Senior Dave Tabachnik (Manalapan, NJ/ Manalapan)
outlasted Ryan Woodring 2-6, 6-3, 11-9 in the third singles.
Trimmer cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 victory in the fourth singles flight.
Kulp improved to 6-0 in singles play with a quick 6-1, 6-0 win at
fifth singles while Wiesemann closed out the match with a 6-3, 7-6
(7-1) win in the sixth singles match.
The Spartans return to action on Wednesday when
they host Gallaudet in a Capital Athletic Conference match. The
match is slated to begin at 3:30 pm.
