HILTON HEAD, SC-The York College men's
tennis team posted their first win of the season as they defeated
Augustana 8-1 on Tuesday afternoon in Hilton Head, SC. The Spartans
improve to 1-2 for the campaign while Augustana falls to 2-11.
The green and white carried the play in the
singles matches. Sophomore Tim Mowrer (Gordonville, PA/ Pequea
Valley) notched a 7-5, 6-2 win at first singles as he improves to
2-1. Sophomore Ryan Fickes (York, PA/ Dallastown) won his second
straight with a 6-3, 6-1 win at second singles. Augustana's
Greg Ruth won the third doubles match for the Vikings' lone
win. Senior Dave Tabachnik (Manalapan, NJ/ Manalapan) recorded a
6-3, 6-4 win at fourth singles while Josh Kulp (Souderton, PA/
Homeschooled) improved to 3-0 with a 6-3, 6-3 win at fifth singles.
Brian Wiesemann (Leonardtown, MD/ Leonardtown) closed out the
singles matches with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at sixth singles.
The Spartans' doubles teams got shuffled
after they went a combined 0-6 in their first two team matches. The
new number one team of Fickes and Kulp recorded a 9-8 (7-1) win.
Mowrer and Joel Trimmer (Hanover, PA/ Hanover) combined to post an
8-6 win while Wiesemann and Jeff Mansfield (Bartonsville, PA/ North
Harford) earned an 8-4 win at third doubles.
The Spartans return to action on Wednesday
morning as they face Catholic University in a CAC contest in Hilton
Head at 9:00 am.
