YORK, PA - The York College women's swim
team defeated visiting Goucher College 114-92 while falling to
Capital Athletic Conference foe Salisbury 119-83 in collegiate
swimming action Saturday afternoon. The Spartans'
record moves to 5-5 (2-4 CAC) with the split. Salisbury
picked up two victories to improve their 2007-08 mark to 3-4 (3-3
CAC) as Goucher drops to 3-5 after losing close meets to both the
Spartans and Sea Gulls.
Senior Laura McCray (Laurel, Md./Laurel) and
sophomore Molly Wasik (York, Pa./Spring Grove)
turned in impressive performances for the York side as each
garnered an overall first place finish and an overall second in
their individual races. McCray captured the top spot in the
200 butterfly with a time of 2:22.42. The senior touched the
wall at 5:42.10 in the 500 freestyle to earn an overall second
place finish for the event. Wasik clocked in at 2:22.44 in
the 200 backstroke earning first in the race while she took second
in the 200 IM with a 2:23.16 time.
In the 50 free, Bridget Miller (Wilmington, Del./St.
Mark's) touched in for an overall second with a time of
26.52. The 200 freestyle relay combination of Ashley
Stanton (Columbia, Md./Hammond), Kristin Leonard
(Herndon, Va./Herndon), Wasik, and Miller swam to an
overall second clocking in at 1:46.51.
In the 200 medley relay, Lauren Richardson (Naples,
Fla./Naples), Colleen Nolan (Annandale,
Va./Annandale), Jessie Reick (Mountville,
Pa./Hempfield), and Flor Isabel Aroche (Spring,
Texas/Tomball) teamed to earned second place points
against both Goucher and Salisbury with a time of 2:06.31.
Individually, Kaitlin Crean (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield
Warde) earned valuable second place points in the 1000
freestyle touching the wall at 11:55.32. Stanton and Miller
each earned additional second place points as Stanton finished at
2:07.41 in the 200 freestyle while Miller swam to a 58.84 in the
100 freestyle. In the 200 breaststroke, Nolan picked up first
against Goucher with a 2:44.21 time adding precious points in the
close meet.
After an extended break in conjunction with the Christmas
season, the Spartans return to the pool on January 18. York
is set to host Notre Dame (Md.) at 6:00 pm before battling
Misericordia on January 19 at 1:00 pm in back-to-back home
contests.
