YORK, PA - The York College men's swim
team grabbed a pair of victories Saturday afternoon with a 166-21
drubbing of Goucher while earning the 138-65 Capital Athletic
Conference victory over Salisbury. The Spartan record
improves to 7-2 (4-2 CAC) for the 2007-08 campaign. Goucher
falls to 0-6 and Salisbury drops to 3-4 (2-2 CAC).
The Spartans captured nine overall victories on the afternoon
including two relays. Senior Steven Fulcher
(Columbia, Md./Calvert Hall) garnered two of York's
seven individual overall wins. Fulcher touched in first in
the 50 freestyle at 22.18 before winning the 200 backstroke in a
time of 2:04.74. Andrew Demarest (Galloway,
N.J./Abesegami) swam to a first place spot in the 200 IM
finishing at 2:06.60 while Clark Arnold (York,
Pa./Northeastern) tallied his individual victory with a
time of 2:11.31 in the 200 butterfly.
Matthew Jennings (Fairfax, Va./Robinson)
continued the Spartans' dominance attaining an overall first
in the 100 freestyle touching the wall at 49.57. In the 500
freestyle, Stephen Doemland (Etters, Pa./Red Land)
clocked a 5:16.51 for his individual overall win while
Steven Tobin (Estell Manor, N.J./Holy Spirit)
added to the scoreboard with a 2:23.37 first place finish in the
200 breaststroke.
York captured their relay wins in the 200 medley and the 200
freestyle. Jennings, Tobin, Arnold, and Ben Hilt (Mt.
Joy, Pa./Hempfield) combined to win the 200 medley with a
time of 1:40.20. In the 200 freestyle, Jennings, Arnold,
Hilt, and Fulcher came together to earn the York victory clocking
in at 1:29.72.
The Spartans added to their score with several quality
races. Garrett Higgins (Yardley,
Pa./Pennsbury) timed in at 1:53.79 to earn a 200 freestyle
win over Goucher while Doemland clocked an 11:05.67 in the 1000
freestyle defeating Salisbury in the event. Doemland also
earned a second-place finish in the 200 breaststroke coming in at
2:23.37, exactly four seconds behind teammate Tobin who grabbed
second for himself in the 200 IM. The 200-medley relay team
of AJ Bean (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana), Chris
Doemland (Etters, Pa./Red Land), Mike Murphy
(Farmingdale, N.J./Colts Neck), and Higgins acquired the
second spot with a time of 1:44.80.
The Spartans receive a long break in light of the Christmas
holiday. The green and white return to action on January 19 with
Misercordia visiting York. The action is scheduled to begin at the
Grumbacher Sport and Fitness Center at 1:00 pm.
