YORK, PA - The York College men's swim team grabbed a
convincing non-conference win over Elizabethtown Tuesday evening
with a 120-67 victory. The Spartans improve their early
season mark to 3-1 (2-1 CAC) while the visiting Blue Jays fall to
1-2 on the year.
York picked up seven individual victories along with capturing
the 200 medley relay. Additionally, the Spartans earned five
second place finishes. The green and white swam the final
three events as exhibition.
Steven Fulcher (Columbia, Md./Calvert Hall) set a York College
Natatorium record with his first place finish in the 50 free.
Fulcher touched in with a time of 22.19, which bested teammate Matt
Jennings' (Fairfax, Va./Robinson) 22.67 second place finish.
Jennings earned his individual win in the
100 free as he recorded a time of 50.77. Spartan teammate
Chris Doemland (Etters, Pa./Red Land) nabbed the second slot
finishing with a time of 51.01.
In the 200 IM, sophomore Andrew Demarest (Galloway,
N.J./Abesegami) swam a solid 2:08.35 to pick up the victory while
freshman Steven Tobin (Estell Manor, N.J./Holy Spirit) touched in
at 2:09.07. Tobin would later set a pool record in the 100
breaststroke clocking a time of 1:03.83. Unfortunately, Tobin
does not receive credit for the victory as York swam this race as
an exhibition.
Clark Arnold (York, Pa./Northeastern) and AJ Bean (Ijamsville,
Md./Urbana) finished first and second in the 100 butterfly,
recording times of 56.54 and 57.70 respectively. Freshman Ben
Hilt (Mt. Joy, Pa./Hempfield) clocked the first place time in the
100 backstroke touching the wall at 58.22 while teammate Chris
Schleicher (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) came in second at 1:00.81.
Matt Kempel (Millington, Md./Queen Anne's County) took the 1000
free for the Spartan side with a time of 11:29.18. Junior
Garrett Higgins (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) earned his individual
victory coming in at 1:52.48 in the 200 free.
The 200 medley relay team of Fulcher, Tobin, Hilt, and Chris
Suehr (North Irwin, Pa./Norwis) recorded the green and
white's relay win with a time of 1:41.37.
York is set to host CAC rival Mary Washington Saturday November
10. A tough early season match-up, the Spartans and Eagles
are scheduled to square off at 2:00 pm.
