Huston Named the Spartan Athlete of the Week

YORK, PA – York College is proud to announce that volleyball senior middle hitter Katie Huston (Ellicott City, M.D., Mount Hebron) has been named the Spartan Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 15, 2014.

Huston was very good in the Spartans’ home opener against McDaniel on Wednesday night. She had six kills and four errors in 27 total attempts for the game. She also had three digs and one block solo as she registered eight points. With one service ace and a .909 serve percentage, Huston was dangerous in all facets of the match.

At the 21st Annual Warrior Tip-Off Classic Lycoming in Williamsport during the weekend, Huston paced the Spartans with a team-high 42 points in the four York matches.

On Friday, the Spartans posted a pair of 3-0 wins. Huston had eight kills and no errors against Elmira. Her total attempts were 13 and her attack percentage was a blistering .615. She had seven kills and only one error against Pitt-Bradford. She registered 16 attempts and hit .375 for the match.

On Saturday, the Spartans dropped a pair of tough matches, falling to Houghton 3-2 and then dropping a 3-0 loss against an 11-1 Susquehanna squad.

Huston played great in the two losses with 12 kills and only one error for both games. Her total attempts were 27 (Houghton) and 24 (Susquehanna).  Her points for each game were 13 and 12 points respectively. They were her two most productive point outputs of the weekend.

Spartan head coach Sue DuMars couldn’t of been happier with how Huston performed during this tournament.

“Katie had a great weekend,” said DuMars. “She is a dynamic offensive player and I felt she really played well this weekend. As a senior captain, it is important for Katie to be an offensive force for us.”

Huston was a key player for the tournament this past weekend. She recorded a team-high 50 points in the five matches for the week. Her 95 total points also leads the squad in 2014. Her total attack percentage was .355, which is amazing for a busy week of games against tough teams.

Huston is a marketing major and is the daughter of Kip and Kim Huston.
