Ryan Flynn Named the Spartan Athlete of the Week

YORK, Pa. - York College is proud to announce that sophomore wrestler Ryan Flynn (Newtown Square, Pa. / Marple Newtown) is the Spartan Athlete of the Week for the week ending on March 1.

Flynn had a day for the ages on Sunday as the 133-pound wrestler took home the NCAA Mideast Regional Championship and earned the honor of being named the 2015 NCAA Mideast Region Outstanding Wrestler as voted on by the 18 coaches in the region. 

Flynn compiled a record of 4-0 as he earned a pin fall at 4:15 into his first match and then went on to outscore his opponents 15-5 with three decisions in his final three bouts en route to his regional cahmpionship. Flynn racked up 4:58 minutes in riding time in his 8-1 semifinal bout and then took an early lead and held on to win 4-2 in the championship match over the No. 1 ranked wrestler at 133 in Mount Union's Jeremy Border.

Flynn extended his win streak to 20 matches with his four wins on Sunday. On this current streak, Flynn has accumulated six major decisions, five pin falls and one technical fall. Flynn owns an overall record of 39-9 on the year and has advanced to the National Championships which will be held on March 13-14 in Hershey, Pa.

Fynn is an engineering major and is the son of Steve and Christine Flynn.
