Miller Leads Spartans to 8th at Mideast Regionals
YORK, Pa. – The York College women's cross country teams competed well at the NCAA Mideast Regional race. The women's team placed eighth against a loaded field.
The women took to the 6k course at Lehigh with a goal to secure a top 10 spot in the region. Jess Miller (Dauphin, Pa. / Bishop McDevitt) led the Spartans with an 18th place finish. Jess was able to tackle the tough course in just over 22 minutes. With the 18th place finish, Miller was able to nab All-Region honors. Miller improved by almost 40 places on her 54th finish from last year.
Caroline DeLany (Frederick, Md. / Tuscarora) was the next finisher for York as she placed 57th, with a time exactly a minute behind Miller. The team had all of their scoring runners place in the top 100 and all under 24 minutes.
On the regional championships, Coach LoBianco stated: "Highest regional finish in school history. Jess started out around 50th and was able to move her way up throughout the race. After putting the next four girl in the top 100, we knew a top ten was possible. To get 8th is a huge accomplishment and great day for the women."
It was a greats season for the Spartans that included a close CAC Championship. The women have quickly become a force for their foes and the tandem of Miller and DeLany should prove to be effective in 2014 for Spartan Cross Country.
