Spartans Begin Campaign at Lehigh
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The York College women's cross country team embarked on their 2013 slate on Saturday, competing at the Lehigh Cross Country Invitational.
"(The) team learned a lot today as the course was the length that they will be running most of the year, a 6k," Spartan head coach Stephen LoBianco noted. "Successful overall as a learning experience and the freshmen's first 6k."
Junior Jess Miller (Dauphin, Pa. / Bishop McDevitt) paced the Green and White as she recorded a 26:44.32 to finish 77th out of 139 runners, including a number from Division I programs.
Jenna Roberts (Stewartstown, Pa. / Kennard-Dale) proved the second Spartan finisher as she crossed the line at 27:04.84, while newcomer Alicia Dillman (Leola, Pa. / Conestoga Valley) posted a 27:16.95 in her first collegiate race.
Sophomore Stephanie Bower (Bel Air, Md. / C. Milton Wright) registered a 6k PR as she traversed the course 27:25.18 – two and a half minutes better than her previous best, according to LoBianco. Kasey Fogelsanger (Owings Mills, Md. / Mercy) ran a 27:27.70 and Emily Abell (Timonium, Md. / Dulaney) clocked in at 27:29.69.
Next on the docket, the Spartans head to Shippensburg University for the Galen E. Piper Cross Country Challenge. The meet is slated for Friday, September 6, at 8:00 pm.
