FROSTBURG, Md. – The York College women's cross country squad finished in second place at the 2012 Capital Athletic Conference Championships Saturday afternoon in Frostburg, Md.
It was an extremely close race between Mary Washington and York. The Spartans ended up with 35 points, just a few points shy of first place.
Sophomore Jess Miller (Dauphin, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) was the first Spartan to cross the finish line. She recorded a time of 24:25.63 and earned a third place overall finish. Head Coach Erick Camodeca said that Miller ran with a purpose today and that the entire team is extremely happy for her.
Close behind Miller was sophomore Caroline DeLany (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora). DeLany has been able to put together a great season and she was able to continue her success. She came in fourth place with a time of 24:27.13. Camodeca said he is proud of how far DeLany has come since last year.
Next up for the Spartans was senior Tuesday Wilson (York, Pa./Eastern York). In her final season with the Spartans Wilson made sure she left everything out on the course this race She really did everything possible to keep the Green and White in contention. Wilson secured a seventh place finish with a time of 24:48.99.
Fellow senior Nicole Danielewicz (Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth Academy) and sophomore Misty Parshall (Dover, Pa./Homeschooled) battled through the last mile to try and pick up those few spots to get by Mary Washington.
"Unfortunately Mary Washington had their best stuff today," said Camodeca. "But our women did a great job today too."
Parshall finished in 11th at 25:19.74 and Danielewicz was not far off in 14th place with a time of 25:33.27.
