Spartans Compete In Challenging Christopher Newport Invitational
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The York College women's cross country team placed sixth at the Christopher Newport Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
York finished the day with 154 points. The Spartans were impressive as a team. The field was competitive and boasted five of the top seven teams in the South/Southeast Region along with DI teams.
Jess Miller (Dauphin, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) took control from the start and was the first Spartan to cross the finish line. Miller came in 13th place with a time of 23:57.83.
Up next for the Spartans was Caroline DeLany (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) finishing with a time of 24:30.64. Following close behind DeLany was fellow Spartan Nicole Danielewicz (Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth Academey) finishing at 24:39.35.
Tuesday Wilson (York, Pa./Eastern York) ran another consistently strong race and threw in a strong kick at the end to finish in 33rd place with a time of 24:42.53.
Rounding out scoring for the Green and White was Jenna Roberts (Stewartstown, Pa./Kennard-Dale). Roberts who was unsure if she would be running the race stepped up and ran a solid race. She finished with a time of 25:16.18.
"Today only confirmed the women's belief that they are capable of running with anyone," said head coach Erick Camodeca.
The Spartans return to action Saturday, October 27 for the CAC championship. The race is being held at Frostburg University and is set to begin at 11:00 am.
