Spartans open 2012 season at the Galen Piper Cross Country Challenge

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The York College women's cross country team opened their 2012 campaign Saturday morning at Shippensburg's Galen Piper Cross Country Challenge with a fifth place finish out of six teams. The Spartans approached the meet as a season-opening tune up to prepare the Green and White for the upcoming campaign.

The Green and White's first finisher of the day was Misty Parshall (Dover, Pa./Homeschooled). She came in 25th place with a time of 16:21, beating last years race time by two seconds. Jess Miller (Dauphin, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) crossed the finish line next for the Spartans at 17:00, good for a 44th place finish. York's third finisher with a time of 17:03 was Tuesday Wilson (York, Pa./Eastern York). Caroline DeLany (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) finished the race at 17:07, while Nicole Danielewicz (Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth Academy) ran 17:11 and rounded out the scoring for York.

The Spartans are set to compete again at John Rudy County Park in York, Pa. for the Rich Achtzehn Classic on September 15 at 11:00 am.
