DOVER, DEL – The York College volleyball squad earned their first Capital Athletic Conference win of the year as they downed Wesley College 3-0 in Dover, Delaware on Tuesday evening. The Spartans won the match by scores of 25-17, 25-14, and 25-22.
York improves to 14-9 overall and 1-1 in the league while the Wolverines fall to 15-6 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
York was very balanced offensively in the match as no Spartan had more than five kills while 11 players recorded at least one. Alison Dorsey (Elkridge, Md./Long Reach) paced York with five kills as she did not commit an error in 10 attempts for a .500 attack percentage.
The Spartans were very solid on the attack as they hit .267 for the match. The Green and White also did a good job defensively as they notched 12 block assists for the match. It is the seventh time this year that York has reached double figures in the category. Senior Amanda Mackey (Whiteford, Md./North Harford) led York's charge at the net with four block assists.
Katherine Graziano (Elkridge, Md./Archbishop Spalding) paced York's defensive effort with nine digs while Cassie Miller (Odenton, Md./Arundel) banged out a career-high six service aces. York recorded 11 aces in the win.
Sharis Allen led Wesley with eight kills while Meghan Marshall had a match-high 12 digs for the Wolverines.
York returns to action on Thursday night when they host McDaniel College in a non-conference contest. The match is set for a 7:00 pm start in York.
