Spartans Bounce Back to Notch Two Wins at LVC

ANNVILLE, PA – The York College volleyball squad closed out their stay at the Lebanon Valley Volleyball Invitational with a pair of wins on Saturday afternoon. The Spartans downed Central Penn College and Penn State Altoona by 3-0 scores during the tournament's second day.

York improves to 7-2 overall with the two wins.

The Spartans won the match over Central Penn by scores of 25-17, 25-17, and 25-13. Spartan head coach Sue DuMars gave her reserves a chance to shine as she rested her starters in the match. Freshman Sarah Wukitch (East Greenville, Pa./Southern Lehigh) responded with 16 kills in 27 attempts as she hit .407 for the match. She also had five service aces and three digs for the Green and White. Junior Kristin Martinak (Hanover, Pa./South Western) ran the offense efficiently as she dished out a career-high 35 assists while sophomore Lindsay Jackson (Goshen, N.Y./Goshen Central) notched a career-high 12 digs to pace the York defense. Freshman Karli Hawxhurst (Prince Frederick, Md./Calvert) added eight kills and eight digs for the Green and White.

In the match against Penn State Altoona, the starters were back and responded by bouncing the Lions by scores of 25-17, 25-20, and 25-16.

Freshman Ijeoma Igwe (Windsor Mill, Md./Seton Keough) powered the offense with 14 kills as she hit .370 for the match. Senior Brittany Hicks (Dover, Pa./York Catholic) added 13 kills and 14 assists for her third double-double of the year. Sophomore Allie Donahue (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) handed out 42 assists while she also had eight digs, five block assists and two service aces. Katherine Graziano (Elkridge, Md./Archbishop Spalding) led the Spartans' defensive effort with 22 digs. Senior Amanda Mackey (Whiteford, Md./North Harford) and sophomore Alison Dorsey (Elkridge, Md./Long Reach) controlled the middle as they combined to record 17 kills with just two errors in 35 attempts. The duo also notched a combined five block assists.

The Spartans return to action on Wednesday, September 11 at Gettysburg College. Game time is slated for 7:00 pm at Bream Gymnasium.
