HAVERFORD, PA – The York College volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at Haverford College in Haverford, PA on Saturday afternoon. The Spartans fell to Johns Hopkins 3-1 in the opener before the host Fords edged the Spartans 3-2 in the nightcap.
The Spartans fall to 6-22 for the year while Hopkins is 22-3 and Haverford is now 15-6. The score of the Hopkins match was 21-25, 25-12, 25-12, and 25-20. In the Haverford match, the Fords edged the Spartans 25-18, 25-7, 27-25, 25-23, and 15-10.
Against Haverford, freshman Alison Dorsey (Elkridge, Md./Long Reach) paced the Spartans with 10 kills and three blocks. Dorsey hit a team-high .389 for the match. Freshman Emma Geisser (Derwood, Md./Magruder) added nine kills and 12 digs while sophomore Katie Huston (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) chipped in with eight kills and three block assists.
Freshman setter Allie Donahue (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) handed out 34 assists while she also had 14 digs, five kills, a service ace, a solo block and a block assist. Senior Ashley Rineman (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) notched a match high 33 digs to pace the Spartan defensive effort.
Earlier in the day, the Spartans dropped a four setter to Hopkins. The Spartans received nine kills from Geisser and senior Dani Mastroieni (Chalfont, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy). Donahue had 24 assists, 12 digs and two service aces.
Rineman again paced the Spartans defensive effort with 23 digs while she also had four service aces.
The Spartans head to St. Mary's on Thursday night in a Capital Athletic Conference contest. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
