Volleyball Splits Pair at Elizabethtown on Saturday
ELIZABETHTOWN, PA – The York College volleyball squad split their two matches on Saturday at the second day of the Days inn Blue Jay Classic hosted by Elizabethtown College.
The Spartans fell to Hamilton 3-0 before blanking Ramapo 3-0 in the nightcap. The split leaves the Spartans with an overall record of 5-14.
Against Hamilton, the Continentals won the match by scores of 25-23, 25-15, and 25-19.
The Spartans were paced by sophomore Katie Huston (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) as she had 10 kills and hit .360 for the match. Senior Dani Mastroieni (Chalfont, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy Academy) added nine kills and eight digs to the Spartan effort. Freshman setter Allie Donahue (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) handed out 29 assists while she also had four kills and four digs.
Senior Ashley Rineman (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) continued her stellar weekend as she had a team-high 16 digs.
Brenna Corrigan led the Continentals with 12 kills and 13 digs while Emma Lonadier handed out 15 assists.
In the win over Ramapo, the Spartans were very balanced led by Huston and freshmen Emma Geisser (Derwood, Md./Magruder) and Alison Dorsey (Elkridge, Md./Long Reach). Huston, Geisser, and Dorsey each had nine kills to power the offense. Geisser chipped in with 14 digs as she hit .304 for the match.
Donahue dished out 32 helpers while she hit .857 with six kills in seven attempts. Donahue also had 11 digs, a block solo and a block assist en route to earning a spot on the All-Tournament team.
Rineman notched another 26 digs to pace the Spartan defense. Rineman accumulated 118 digs in 14 sets played for the weekend, a whooping 8.4 digs per game during the tournament. Freshman Cassie Miller (Odenton, Md./Arundel) came off the bench to record a career-high 11 digs for York.
The Green and White return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Frostburg State University to face the Bobcats in a Capital Athletic Conference contest. The match is slated for a 7:00 pm start.
