OWINGS MILLS, MD - The York College volleyball squad dropped a hard-fought 3-1 Capital Athletic Conference decision at Stevenson University on Wednesday night in Owings Mills, MD. The Mustangs improve to 22-2 overall and 4-1 in the CAC while the Spartans fall to 10-10 overall and 2-4 in the league.
The game scores were 25-20, 25-22, 19-25, 25-15.
All four games were hard fought and tightly played with each teams taking turn dancing with momentum. York was in each and every game but the Mustangs found a way to just make a few more plays to earn the win.
Senior Heather Bucher led the Spartans as she tied a career-high with 16 kills while she also had 15 digs for York. Fellow senior Julie Coombs added eight kills and a team-high 23 digs for YCP. Senior setter Cortni Rentzel handed out 41 assists while she also had 13 digs. Junior libero Ashley Rineman picked up 22 digs for York. Freshman Katie Huston led the Spartans with a .227 attack percentage as she had seven kills.
Stevenson had three players reach double figures in kills led by Megan Miller's 13 kills. Christine Isenberg and Avery Gabbard each chipped in with 10. Samantha Perillo had a match-high 32 digs while CAC Player of the Week Jessica Gieselman had 39 assists, 14 digs and six kills for the Mustangs.
York hit .111 for the contest while the Mustangs notched a .164 attack percentage. York hit .250 in the game three win but hit a combined .068 in the other three sets.
The Spartans now head west to participate in the 2011 Molten Spike It Up Classic hosted by Colorado College on Friday and Saturday. York faces UC Santa Cruz on Friday at 3:00 pm followed by a match against Colorado College Friday evening.
