Bethany Miller Earns Third-Straight Rookie of the Year for the Spartans
YORK, Pa. – York College women's track & field freshman Bethany Miller (York, Pa./York Suburban) has been selected as the 2013 Capital Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Rookie of the Year. Miller is the third straight Spartan to garner the honor as Laura Rowlands (Dover, Pa./Dover) collected the accolade in 2011 and Jasmine Smith earned the title last season.
"We are very excited for Bethany," said Head Coach Erick Camodeca. "She earned this award through her hard work and commitment."
Miller finished strong in her first CAC Outdoor Championship meet. She picked up two of the Spartans five second-team All-CAC awards in the high jump and pole vaults. Miller recorded a height of 1.54 meters in the high jump and a height of 3.04 meters in the pole vault.
"Bethany continually improved throughout the season," said Camodeca. "It all came together for her when it mattered most."
Miller also had another strong meet at the Paul Kaiser Track & Field Classic at Shippensburg University. She finished with a personal best 3.16 meters in the pole vault, almost besting the school record.
Miller has been a tremendous value to the team this season and Coach Camodeca is glad that her efforts were recognized by the rest of the conference.
Miller and the rest of the Spartans have a few chances left in the 2013 season to qualify for the NCAA National Championships at the end of the month. The team returns to action at home Thursday for the York Twilight Meet and then travels to the Swarthmore Tuppany Twilight Last Chance Meet on Monday. Both meets are set to start at 4:00 pm.
