SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The York College women's indoor track and field team finished strong at the Crusader Indoor Meet on Friday evening at Susquehanna University.
The distance runners proved today that all their hard work is beginning to pay off. The Spartans started out strong and remained in control the entire race. All of the runners in the 5K broke their personal records. Running a stellar performance and finishing in first place was Jess Miller (Dauphin, Pa./Bishop McDevitt). Miller looked great throughout the whole race. She finished in 19:14.97. Also running strong and pacing with Miller for most of the race was senior Nicole Danielewicz (Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth Academy) who crossed the finish line in 19:36.52 for second place. Chelsea McCracken (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern) earned her PR with a time of 20:42.14 and an eighth place finish. Stephanie Bower (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) also ran a great race in 21:40.47.
Bethany Miller (York, Pa./York Suburban) had an all around solid day in the field events. Coach Erick Camodeca said that besides getting some good results today, Miller was able to build on her confidence. Miller started out with a sixth place finish in the long jump, posting a distance of 4.45 meters. In the pole vault Miller tied for third place with a height of 2.75 meters. In her last event of the day, the high jump, Miller earned another third place finish with a height of 1.47 meters.
Also fairing well in the field events were Dana Mangano (Westminister, Md./Westminister) and Ashley Razzano (Wawa, Pa./Garnet Valley). Mangano earned a fifth place finish in the long jump with a leap of 4.52 meters and Razzano tied for third place with Miller in the pole vault.
Bria Jones (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) looked good in the 60-meter dash. Jones qualified for finals in her first heat and then finished the event in second place with a time of 8.42 seconds. She also recorded a sixth place finish in the 200 with a time of 28.55 seconds. Coach Camodeca is proud of the way Jones is performing and how she is doing a great job carrying the women in the sprints.
In the 400-meter dash, Korissa Lincoln (Mohrsville, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) ran 1:07.92 and finished in fourth place. Kathleen Fabio (Brick, N.J./St. Rose) followed close behind with a fifth place finish and a time of 1:08.23.
The Spartans return to Susquehanna Saturday, February 9 for the Susquehanna University Invitational. The meet is set to start at 10:00 am.
