Green and White Compete at West Chester on Saturday

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - The York College women's track & field team competed at the Golden Ram Collegiate Invitational Saturday at West Chester University in West Chester, Pa. Their first official meet of the 2012 outdoor campaign proved a strong one for the Spartan squad.

"Really, really solid performance by the entire team," Spartan head coach Erick Camodeca said. "With the weather they went out there, competed, and did a great job. It was really exciting to see this young team starting to come around."

York's 4x100 relay squad nabbed third for the Green and White with a 52.65. Jackie Gibat, Jasmine Smith, Laura Rowlands, and Deborah Fidele combined to post the time for the Spartans.

Mandy Parshall put together a pair of a top-five finishes as she took third in the 5,000 meters and fourth in the 3K. She traversed the 5,000 in a time of 19:11.22 while running to an 11:14.89 in the 3,000.

Caroline DeLany joined Parshall among the top-five in the 3,000 as she captured the fifth spot with an 11:22.24. Emily Abell took eighth in the race with a 12:01.91.

Putting together quality times in the 10,000 meters, Nicole Danielewicz crossed the line with a 42:05.49 while teammate Jessica Miller came across in 42:07.02.

In the throws, freshman Ashley Menniti had top-ten performances in each of her three events, two of which proved top-five efforts. Her top finish came in the hammer throw where she registered a third-place distance of 34.00 meters. She also took fifth in the discus (26.33 meters) and snagged seventh in the shot put (9.73 meters). Brittany DeManda grabbed fifth in the javelin with a 30.29-meter toss.

Rowlands secured third in the triple jump with a 9.70-meter result while taking tenth in the long jump with a 4.45-meter distance as she continued to work with a short run in an effort for improved results later in the season.

Back on the track, Misty Parshall (5:09.37) and DeLany (5:16.21) collected sixth and ninth, respectively, in the 1500 meters. Chitom Henry took seventh in the 100 hurdles with a 19.27 and Amber Douglas secured tenth in the 200-meter dash with a 28.71.

Going to a meet like this and being able to put some of these performances together for a Division II meet," Camodeca concluded, "I'm happy, I'm very happy."

The Spartans return to action on Saturday, March 31, when they travel to the Maryland Invitational at the University of Maryland ? College Park. Meet time is slated for 10:00 am.
