Spartan Women Earn Big Win at SVU

BUENA VISTA, VA – The York College women's tennis squad captured an exciting 5-4 Capital Athletic Conference road win at Southern Virginia on Saturday afternoon.

The Spartans improve to 9-5 overall and 3-3 in the league while the Knights fall to 13-4 overall and 2-3 in the league.

The Green and White captured two of three doubles points to seize the early lead. Maisie Supp and Katie Wagner combined to earn an 8-5 first doubles win for the Spartans. Rachel Wagner and Gina Liguori combined to earn an 8-6 second doubles win over Audrey McBride and Natalie Teets. The Knights captured the third doubles point with an 8-4 win.

The Spartans split the three singles matches to earn the overall match win. Senior Katie Wagner earned a 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 first singles win for the Spartans. Sophomore Gina Liguori picked up a 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 fourth singles win. Sophomore Hannah Shinsky secured the win with a 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (7-2) six singles victory for the Spartans.

The Spartans return to action next Saturday as they host Frostburg State University in a conference match. The match is slated for a noon start in York.
